Anyone who starts Doginals in 2023 is selling a sequel as an origin. Kabosu is 2010. Dogecoin is 6 December 2013. Read the tape.
Origins (2010–2013)
Atsuko Satō photographs Kabosu
A rescue Shiba Inu in Sakura, Chiba, looks slightly to camera from a sofa. The picture will be stolen, captioned, and made immortal — first as a joke, then as a monetary mark.
Doge becomes a dialect
Comic Sans captions in broken interior monologue — “such wow”, “very currency” — spread across Tumblr and Reddit. The voice is the point: unserious on purpose.
Tipping becomes the product
Reddit and Twitter learn to throw coins at kindness. Dogetipbot turns comments into a mint. Charity runs for a Jamaican bobsled team, a Kenyan well, a NASCAR paint scheme. Christmas 2013’s SaveDogemas tries to reimburse a wallet hack and does not make everyone whole.
Jackson Palmer tweets the joke, then buys Dogecoin.com
“Investing in Dogecoin, pretty sure it’s the next big thing.” A splash page, Kabosu on a gold coin, Comic Sans. There is not yet a chain. Billy Markus, tinkering with a Nintendo-themed coin called Bells, starts building before Palmer replies. They have never met.
Dogecoin genesis
A Luckycoin descendant with one-minute blocks and random early rewards. Within a month the website logs more than a million visitors. The joke clears the room.
Dogewallet hack and SaveDogemas
Attackers rewrite Dogewallet’s send page. Instadoge is hit the same day. Ben Doernberg’s reimbursement drive raises about 14.7 million DOGE against 47.5 million in verified claims. The hat is too small. The myth is not.
Community Era (2014–2020)
Dogesled: Jamaica’s two-man team to Sochi
r/dogecoin and the Foundation raise on the order of 26.5–27 million DOGE, convert to ~35–38 BTC, about $30,000, and pour it into Crowdtilt. Winston Watts and Marvin Dixon fly. They slide three heats. Going was the point.
Indian Sochi raise, then a redirect
CoinDesk: 4.2 million DOGE, about $7,000, 475 gifts, aimed at Shiva Keshavan and two skiers. NBC’s update: the government said travel was already paid. The Foundation passed the hat to Doge4Kids.
Doge4Kids hits 20 million DOGE
Foundation + 4 Paws for Ability. Coin goal cleared 6 February from more than 2,000 donors. Another ~3 million still wanted if the dollar print was going to be $30,000. Two litters, two adult placements.
#ShibesDigWells, Burkina Faso
Water.cc, not charity: water. About 530,000 DOGE, organizer print ~$683. Moolah matched. Do not merge this with March’s Kenyan wells.
Supply is left uncapped
Palmer argues against a 100 billion hard cap. The perpetual 10,000 DOGE tail after block 600,000 is later called a leftover bug they chose not to fix — and then a feature.
Doge4Water
40 million DOGE by World Water Day for charity: water wells in Kenya’s Tana River. @savethemhood tips 14 million in one tweet. charity: water’s page still closes the campaign at $31,996.70.
Dogecoin logo booked for Ex-Alta 1
University of Alberta CubeSat. A ~$1,000 CAD class gift in the subreddit’s name for the official logo on a chip. The satellite would not fly until 2017.
Random block rewards end
Block 145,000: the 1.6 hard fork kills the Luckycoin lottery because pools were cherry-picking high-reward blocks. DigiShield retargets every minute. A decade later that early mess is the hardest problem in Doginals indexing.
Joel David Moore AMA for Operation Smile
Dogecoin PR later booked Ð1,891,215. Just over 1 million converted, enough in their print for two cleft surgeries; remainder held.
Dogecar at Talladega
Sixteen-year-old Denis Pavel, 67 million DOGE, Josh Wise’s No. 98, Kabosu on the sheetmetal. 20th in the Aaron’s 499. Two weeks later the same internet votes him into the All-Star over Danica Patrick.
The founders step away
Core maintainers inherit a joke that refused to die. Palmer later rejects crypto as extractive. Markus stays a dry witness as Shibetoshi Nakamoto. The chain keeps making blocks.
AuxPoW: merge-mined with Litecoin
Dogecoin Core 1.8 enables auxiliary proof-of-work from block 371,337. Litecoin miners can secure both chains with the same scrypt work. Survival, not a stunt.
Moolah: Palmer and Doernberg publish the dossier
“Alex Green” is identified as Ryan Kennedy. The community’s unofficial bank — tips, NASCAR conversion, charity optics — collapses. Scar tissue. “No leaders” is not only philosophy.
Dogetipbot is taken to a server farm upstate
Josh Mohland zeros the hot wallet. Cold storage, he says, was spent in 2015 to keep the bot alive. Personal Chapter 7. The first product of the coin was a custodian. The custodian left.
Ex-Alta 1 deploys from the ISS
The 2014 AlbertaSat gift leaves the station. Canadian Space Agency: 08:55 GMT, 26 May 2017, after an 18 April launch. A Shiba logo in low Earth orbit. DOGE-1 is still a different, unflown story.
Palmer offers Musk a scambot script
Fake giveaway accounts are eating Elon Musk’s replies. Jackson Palmer posts that he already runs a Python regex that blocks and reports them. CNET records Musk saying OK by DM. The first handshake is pest control, not a pump.
Musk’s first public DOGE nod
After a 1 April “who should be CEO” poll, Musk writes “Dogecoin might be my fav cryptocurrency. It’s pretty cool.” Bio: CEO, then Former CEO, of Dogecoin. Volunteer Core people later say the DMs started here.
“One word: Doge”
A three-word tweet. Desks print a double-digit pop. The leftover-penny coin has a new weather system.
The 2021 boom
The 2021 boom
Reddit, TikTok, Elon Musk, a peak capitalization north of $80 billion. The meme learns what a liquidity event feels like. Then it forgets, as memes also do.
“Dogecoin is the people’s crypto”
Also a one-word “Doge,” and a Lion King / Rafiki meme that clears a million likes. Same-day rallies in the 50–60% class go out on the wires.
SNL: Dogefather, Wario, hustle
Musk hosts. Weekend Update’s Lloyd Ostertag: “Yeah, it’s a hustle.” Same night: yellow-and-purple Wario fat-suit on trial for Mario’s murder. ATH near $0.73, then a 30% class dump. Robinhood’s crypto rail faults.
DOGE-1 announced, paid in Doge
SpaceX rideshare to the moon, Geometric Energy CubeSat, launch contract in Dogecoin. The FCC packet survives. The rocket keeps slipping. Still unflown as of this encyclopedia’s 17 September 2026 review.
Palmer’s one-minute tweet
“Reminder: Elon Musk is and always will be a self-absorbed grifter.” Up about a minute. Screenshots outlive the post.
Dogecoin Foundation re-established
Own post: not here to take control of Core. CoinDesk: Buterin, Birchall, Markus as advisers. Trailmap later. The 2014 hats had a new wrapper.
TeamSeas
Official dogecoin.com history’s later hat: Foundation with MrBeast and Mark Rober. Public aim $30 million to pull 30 million pounds of trash from the oceans. A 2021-scale collaboration, not a 2014 Reddit hat.
Merch and a lawsuit (2022)
Tesla merch buyable with Dogecoin
Checkout buttons appear. Tesla warns that other coins sent to those addresses will not come back. Vehicle payments remain a later tease.
Johnson v. Musk filed (SDNY 22-cv-05037)
A civil class action calls the tweet tape, SNL, and later stunts a pump. It is not an SEC fine. The 2018 $40 million settlement was Tesla take-private.

Casey Rodarmor ships a way to number satoshis and inscribe data onto them. Taproot makes the envelopes cheap. A culture of on-chain JPEGs detonates.
Super Bowl LVII: the cowboy Shiba shirt
Musk wears a Dogecoin rodeo-cowboy tee. Asked what he and Rupert Murdoch are discussing, he replies “Dogecoin.”
apezord/doginals
A minter and a protocol note: inscriptions as push-data, P2SH envelopes, multipart payloads, chained transactions. The Dogecoin analogue has a name.
Shibescription #0
The first numbered Doginal in the Apezord lineage. An image, not a token. Collectors will later argue about everything after this; almost no one argues about this.
BRC-20 on Bitcoin
Domo publishes a JSON deploy/mint/transfer toy. It is not a smart contract. It becomes a market anyway. Dogecoin is about to copy the homework.
$DOGI deploy (21 million)
The first widely cited DRC-20. Indexers that begin at genesis treat later dogi deploys as invalid. Indexers that begin in May do not. A schism with a ticker.
The indexer stall
Anyone can inscribe. Almost no one can transfer with confidence. Random early subsidies make honest shibe numbering a research project.
Twitter’s bird becomes Kabosu
Some clients show the Shiba where the blue bird was. CNBC prints a 30%+ day. Plaintiffs later allege a large sale after the stunt. A judge still calls the tweets puffery.
The 2.1 billion dogi
A second deploy, later branded DOGIM in some wallets, becomes canonical for indexers that ignore the spring. Two histories, one ticker spelling.
Cardinals
A competing inscription stack with different confirmation tricks and a swap story. The house records it as a fork in culture, not a successor.
Block-0 indexers and markets
Doge Labs and others publish wallets, explorers, and a PSDT marketplace path. Infrastructure, not consensus, decides which Doginal you actually own.
builderdogecoin on GitHub
GitHub user builderdogecoin is created. Company field DogeSoft.io, site dogesoft.io, X username the same handle. Public builder voice for the later Doge Soft stack.
Kabosu monument unveiled in Sakura
Sakura City: Furusato Square, Doge Day, estimated 18th birthday. CoinDesk preview named Own The Doge. A bronze in Chiba. Not a Core parameter.
Infrastructure (2024–)
Kabosu dies
Atsuko Satō writes that Kabosu fell into a deep sleep at 7:50 a.m. in Sakura, aged about 18. The face on the coin is still hers.
Dogecoin class action dismissed
Judge Alvin Hellerstein, SDNY: Musk’s DOGE statements are aspirational puffery. No reasonable investor could rely on them. Appeal dropped November 2024. No payout.
Foundation licenses marks to House of Doge
SEC filings: exclusive royalty-bearing trademark license, later amended May and June 2025. 5% of licensed net sales plus $200,000 a month minimum for five years.
Era of Doge Soft Part Une

House of Doge, MoonPay, and the Foundation collectively contribute 1 million DOGE to kick off an AKC Humane Fund drive. A 2026 press-release hat. Not the 2014 winter.

Eden’s Part Deux announces DogeSoft Inscription Standard v1 — ACTION tags on Apezord’s envelope, open docs, and an invitation for other builders to fork an indexer and ship.
