Between January and May 2021 Dogecoin rose from a leftover meme to a peak capitalization reported above $80 billion, pushed by Reddit, TikTok, celebrity amplification, and the same retail machinery that touched GameStop. We record it because every later inscription market traded in the shadow of that liquidity — and that hangover.

Event

January 2021: an 800% day, the coin in the same browser tab as a short squeeze. April: Coinbase’s listing day lifted the whole sector; Dogecoin crossed $0.10 then $0.45 in a week. Robinhood’s crypto system failed under demand. May 5–8 became the folklore peak. SpaceX talked, in May, of a Dogecoin-funded lunar rideshare. The CubeSat slipped. The candles did not wait.

Palmer was already gone. Markus was not running a treasury. The 2021 buyer was not tipping a bobsled. That discontinuity is the moral of the chart.
