Doge4Kids was the Dogecoin Foundation’s February 2014 drive with 4 Paws for Ability and Crowdtilt: raise 20 million DOGE — they said the equivalent of $30,000 — by the end of the month to sponsor two litters of service puppies and place two adult dogs with families. Ben Doernberg announced it on r/dogecoin on 3 February. The Verge counted 7.9 million in by the 4th. PCR counted more than 14 million on the 5th. On the 6th Doernberg posted that more than 2,000 people had already given 20 million DOGE, then asked for another 3 million because the dollar target had not moved with the coin. Later that winter Palmer listed it next to the sled as a $30,000-class gift. The Indian-Olympian hat, which could not be delivered, was poured in. That is the record. This page will not invent which two families got which two adults.
What it was
After Dogesled, the Foundation wanted a drive that pointed the Shiba at actual dogs and at children, not at a movie sequel. 4 Paws for Ability trains service dogs for kids with autism, Down’s syndrome, diabetes, mobility needs, and related conditions. The Foundation’s 3 February post named two litters that would be trained and paired as they grew, plus two adult dogs placed with families. doge4kids.org was the landing page. Crowdtilt took dollars for people who did not hold the coin. The public DOGE address that appeared in-thread was DTMxdZkWd7aCX1a7DcJmUJs931b1GSBQsk. A February 2014 archive of foundation.dogecoin.com listed that wallet as a sponsored initiative, distinct from the smaller “verified charity” addresses the Foundation did not itself manage.
Doernberg told CoinDesk, during the Indian-Olympian fog, that the next Foundation work would be “more for people who are in serious need.” Doge4Kids is that sentence on a calendar. The sled had been zany on purpose. This hat was the attempt to be serious without dropping Kabosu.
What people confuse
| Misconception | Record |
|---|---|
| This is the same as Doge4Water | Kids is February, 4 Paws, Xenia, Ohio. Water is March, charity: water, Tana River, Kenya. A still-smaller February hat, #ShibesDigWells, went to Water.cc in Burkina Faso — filed on tipping culture. Three water-and-care stories. Do not mash them. |
| Billy Markus dated it 2015 | Business Insider, February 2021, quoting Markus, put Doge4Kids in 2015. The Foundation post, The Verge, and PCR are February 2014. Recaps inherit the wrong year. The primary tape does not. |
| Palmer trained the dogs | 4 Paws trains dogs. The Foundation passed a hat. Palmer later named the dollar class in a talk. Those are three jobs. |
| The Indian Olympians received this money | NBC’s update on the Sochi Indian raise: the government said travel was already paid; the Foundation passed that hat to Doge4Kids. The kids drive absorbed an orphaned Olympic hat. It did not fund luges. |
| We can name the two families | 4 Paws promised photos of sponsored puppies after the campaign funded. This encyclopedia has the public goal and the period close. It does not have a 2026 kennel roster. |
Three days to 20 million
The Verge, 4 February 2014, Nathan Ingraham: the community that had just bought Jamaica a plane ticket was now pointing the same hat at the coin’s namesake. Goal: the equivalent of $30,000. Already in: more than 7.9 million of 20 million DOGE, “the vast majority” in coin rather than Crowdtilt dollars. PCR, 5 February: more than 14 million pledged, about $17,600 of the dollar target at that hour’s rate, and a note that 4 Paws already worked in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Germany, Japan, and Switzerland.
6 February, Doernberg on r/dogecoin: over 2,000 donors, over 20 million DOGE, a 5 p.m. EST AMA with someone from 4 Paws — and a remaining 3 million DOGE still needed if the dollar print was going to be $30,000. The coin goal and the dollar goal had decoupled because the market moved. That is why later Palmer-talk roundups can say “$30,000” while the contemporaneous threads sweat an extra 3 million coins. Cite both. Do not pick the prettier one.
So far over 2,000 people have donated over 20,000,000 doge to help train service dogs for children in need.Ben Doernberg (NeutralityMentality), r/dogecoin, 6 February 2014
The Indian Sochi hat that landed here
On 18 January 2014 a thread pitched funding Shiva Keshavan, India’s luger, after the sled drive taught the subreddit it could move a body. By 30 January CoinDesk had 4.2 million DOGE, about $7,000, 475 gifts, one anonymous 3 million-coin slug, aimed at Keshavan plus alpine skier Himanshu Thakur and cross-country skier Nadeem Iqbal. India’s Olympic association was under IOC suspension; athletes could not wear the flag. Doernberg told CoinDesk he had emailed Keshavan’s wife and the Winter Games Federation of India and was getting contradictory answers about who still needed money. He floated asking the Jamaican team to hand-carry funds. NBC, same day, still had the coins sitting in a Foundation wallet waiting on payment details.
NBC’s later update is the clerk this page uses: after the raise, the Indian government informed the Foundation that the athletes’ way was already paid, badly communicated. The money was passed to Doge4Kids. A contemporaneous r/dogecoin comment on the kids drive said it had just received another $6,000 from the Indian-olympics funds. CoinDesk’s fog is real. The redirect is also real. Record both. Do not write a delivery-to-Sochi that the desks walked back.
What “closed” means here
Palmer, talking to The Verge in late April 2014, listed Doge4Kids next to the sled as a $30,000-class gift. Markus, in a 2021 recap, remembered the $30,000 and the two adult placements and put the year wrong. Official dogecoin.com history, as of this review, still leads charity with the sled and the Kenyan wells and does not name 4 Paws. That omission is why this page exists. The public coin goal was hit in days. The dollar class is period talk sitting on a moving rate. 4 Paws’s promise was photos of sponsored puppies after funding. This site has not opened a 2026 photo album that names two families. The certain core: tens of millions of DOGE, a named US charity, a February calendar, a redirect from an Olympic hat that could not land.
Place in the 2014 winter
Sequence: SaveDogemas (Christmas, hat too small) → Dogesled (January, spectacle) → Indian Olympians (late January, redirected here) → Doge4Kids (February, dogs) → #ShibesDigWells (same week, Burkina Faso, Water.cc, a fraction of a million coins) → Doge4Water (March, Kenya) → Dogecar (March–May, Talladega). Kids is the first Foundation hat that tried to look like a charity instead of a sports movie. Water is the second. The car is the carnival coming back. Moolah is still in the conversion plumbing for other drives that month. This particular wallet was Foundation-sponsored. Keep the files in their months.
Questions
How much did Doge4Kids raise?
The Foundation’s coin goal was 20 million DOGE. Doernberg posted that figure cleared on 6 February 2014, from more than 2,000 donors, with another ~3 million still wanted if the dollar print was going to be $30,000. Palmer later treated it as a $30,000-class gift. Cite the coin count first.
Did the Indian Olympian money go to the athletes?
NBC’s update: the Indian government said travel was already paid. The Foundation passed that raise to Doge4Kids. CoinDesk, written before the walk-back, is the fog. The redirect is the close.
