DogeCoin Names turn a wallet string into something you can say out loud. The public home is dogecoinnames.com. Under the hood it is still classic Doginals p:dns — an inscription in your wallet, first valid claim wins, no renewals. Soft ships the dogecoinnames.com registrar; dogefeed.app is on the same index. This encyclopedia documents the moment — and cheers for the utility.

The drop: names are utility, not a costume

Dogecoin already moves money, inscriptions, and DRC-20 coins. What it lacked for a long time was a shared, readable identity layer that felt native — not a web2 username duct-taped to a QR code. DogeCoin Names fill that gap. You search a label, pick an ending, pay once in DOGE, and the name lands as a Doginal in the wallet you control. Say it. Share it. Put it on a tip jar. That is the product.

The press-release version, said with a straight face: this is one of the cleanest “why Dogecoin” stories in years. Short names. Permanent ownership. Multiple registrars cooperating on one index. Soft holds so two checkouts do not race the same gem. Profile records so a name can point at a Pay address or a URL. Peer-to-peer resale when you are ready to pass it on. Builders get a public API. Collectors get a face on Explorer search. The culture gets something to rally around that is not another tick ticker.

Pay once. Live in your wallet. No renewals. A registrar network on the same chain everyone already uses.dogecoinnames.com product framing, as of 17 Oct 2026

How a name actually works

A name is a text inscription using the original Doginals name envelope — protocol field p:dns. Registration uses op:reg. The first valid registration for a given name wins, ordered by block height and then position in the block. Later claims are ignored. Ownership follows the inscription UTXO: if you move the coin, you move the name.

Registration body (key order matters)
{"p":"dns","op":"reg","name":"yourname.doge","registrar":"dogesoft.io"}

Holders can later reinscribe records with op:rec — Soft’s manage UI focuses on Pay (addr) and URL today. Resolve APIs return the payment address when the current holder set one. None of this invents a new consensus rule. Dogecoin nodes still just move money; indexers and wallets that speak p:dns give the bytes meaning.

  1. Search a label on dogecoinnames.com (or a peer registrar).
  2. See availability across endings — .doge, .dogecoin, .doginals, .soft, .𝕏Ð, .dogefeed.
  3. Soft-hold the name for a few minutes while you check out (off-chain coordination).
  4. Wallet-sign the commit/reveal plan; the inscription lands in your wallet.
  5. Optional: set Pay / URL records from Manage; list or offer on the peer-to-peer market.

A registrar network — Soft, dogefeed.app, and friends

The exciting part is not a single storefront. It is a network. Registration bodies carry a registrar tag. The shared Names index recognizes approved tags and shows them on name pages. As of live config on 17 October 2026, that list includes dogesoft.io (Soft / dogecoinnames.com) and dogefeed.app.

TagWhat people meet

dogefeed.appdogefeed.app’s own registrar product, same endings index and soft-hold coordination.

That is the sweet spot: independent products, shared availability, shared history. Soft does not pretend to own every checkout UI. dogefeed.app runs its own experience. Both write into the same on-chain notebook. Self-registered names — inscribed before Soft, or without a recognized tag — still count and still resolve. The network is bigger than any one logo.

Endings worth saying out loud

Flagship energy sits on .doge. Classic spellings live on .dogecoin and .doginals. Value endings — .soft, .𝕏Ð, .dogefeed — keep the door open for experiments, creators, and the DogeFeed crowd. Short labels (1–3 characters) pay a multiplier. Live prices always come from the public config API, not from a screenshot in a chat.

Soft holds, hard settlement

While you are in cart, registrars can soft-hold a name for about five minutes in a shared off-chain table. Other UIs see status reserved and should not sell the same name in that window. Holds never rewrite Dogecoin history — the first valid on-chain reg still wins. That is the honest design: coordination for humans, finality for the chain.

When you want to pass a name on, resale is peer to peer. Seller signs a listing template; buyer completes one broadcast that pays the seller, delivers the inscription, and covers the marketplace fee. Offers and auctions are coordination; settlement stays wallet-signed. No rental period. No silent expiry clock on ownership.

For builders, the public read surface covers check, name, resolve, address names, recent, stats, market browse, and holds. Write paths use a wallet session (sign-in never moves coins) or a registrar hold token on soft-hold routes. Searched names are not supposed to hit shared logs — anti front-running hygiene matters when the prize is a short .doge.

Why the archive is cheering

Doginals history is full of experiments that looked like toys until they became infrastructure. Names feel like that inflection: readable identity, multi-registrar coordination, wallet-native ownership, and a public API you can actually ship against. Soft put the glossy front door at dogecoinnames.com. dogefeed.app is already in the room. The index is shared. The inscriptions are real.

If you are writing the next chapter — a tip bot, a social client, a game handle, a merchant checkout — start with a name people can type. Then point Pay and URL where the money and the story should go. That is the utility. That is the eco. That is the bit worth a press-release grin without the empty adjectives.

Questions

Is a .doge name the same as a DNS domain on the internet?

No. It is a Dogecoin inscription name in the p:dns lineage. Wallets and indexers that speak Names resolve it; it is not ICANN DNS.

What if Soft and dogefeed.app both try to sell the same name?

Soft holds coordinate short off-chain reserves across the shared index. Final ownership is still the first valid on-chain registration.

Do I renew every year?

No. One registration payment plus network fees. Ownership follows the inscription in your wallet.

Where do I read the technical detail?

docs.dogesoft.io/names/registrar and the Inscription standard Names section. Live fees and approved registrar tags are on GET /api/config.
